Antibody Test in Delhi
The now very renowned antibody test is one of the methods used to test if one has ever crossed paths with the virus that causes covid-19. An antibody test is done using one’s blood.
A healthcare professional will take a small sample of one’s blood. The blood will now be tested to see if there are antibodies present. Antibodies are proteins our body makes to fight off infection. It is through these antibodies that one finds out if the body has ever been infected with the covid-19 virus.

If one tests positive for antibodies: it is likely that you have been infected by the covid-19 virus at some point in time. However, it is not known if these antibodies protect one from getting infected again. One must simply rely on their immunity for this, and increase their immunity is the best way to protect oneself.
If one tests negative for antibodies: It is likely that you haven’t been infected by the coronavirus as of yet. The test proves that the body hasn’t started fighting a virus.
An antibody test can tell that one was infected, not when or how long ago.
If tested positive it is possible to be infected again.
If tested negative it is still possible that one gets infected and falls sick.
The antibody test can not tell you if one is infected at the very moment. It can simply show if the body has started fighting a virus or not. It is very likely that one might be infected at the moment but the test comes out negative, this is simply because the body hasn’t started fighting the virus as of yet.
Delhi first openly introduced antibody tests in June 2020. Initially, Delhi tested over 23% of their population to have antibodies, indicating many people were most likely infected by the coronavirus but were simply asymptomatic. This study was done by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) in July. A total of 21,387 samples were collected according to lab standards and then tested for antibodies. These tests were conducted in 11 districts of Delhi. Even after the tests were conducted, a significant number of people were still at risk. This in turn shows in the deaths caused by the coronavirus which had a significant rise since July. With the increase in the number of tests, there is an increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Delhi. The government is coming up with new and improved strategies everyday to contain the rise of Covid-19 cases.
